Altrusa International of Oak Ridge, TN, Inc.

Altrusa is an international non-profit organization making our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service.

Our club offers an opportunity to make a real difference in Oak Ridge, TN. We undertake a variety of service, literacy, fundraising and international projects each year.

We are seeking new volunteers to join our organization and make a difference. Our members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.

WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ENERGETIC, SERVICE-MINDED PEOPLE TO JOIN ALTRUSA.

Our Service Projects

Literacy

Investigates and identifies the literacy needs of the community and defines projects to address those needs. Co-sponsors the Annual Literacy Luncheon with Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary.

Partners in Education

Supports the Oak Ridge Schools’ Preschool through the Partners in Education program. Activities include Angel Tree, breakfast, reading to children, and volunteering at the Preschool.

Scholarship

Evaluates and selects scholarship recipients from applications based on criteria; presents scholarship recipients at annual Scholarship Luncheon in May. The Foundation determines available scholarship monies each year.

Bookmobile

Supports literacy in a partnership with the Oak Ridge schools and Girls, Inc. by collecting books, reading with the children and helping them with their book selection.

Karry 4 Kids

Collecting duffle bags for the children in foster care and shelters so they have a way to keep their personal items with them.

Free Medical Clinic Bookcase

Collecting books and magazines for the patient waiting area and keeping the bookcase neat and organized.

In Her Shoes

Planned outings for middle school Girls Inc. students to visit professional women in their workplace to learn about the diversity of careers.

Welcome Home Baskets

Assists the YWCA with baskets filled with basic household supplies for women transitioning from domestic violence situations to their new homes.

Days 4 Girls

Create menstrual health kits for young women around the world. Safe, wearable, washable, long-lasting alternatives to the often unsanitary options available to them. Volunteers can cut fabric, iron, sew, and assemble kits.
